Release Date: 01/20/2011
Clarksville, Ark.-No. 20 Louisiana College hit 20-of-21 from the free throw line in the second half to keep the Lady Eagles from any kind of comeback in the Lady Wildcats 69-57 win Thursday night in American Southwest Conference play.
The Lady Wildcats (13-1, 8-1 ASC) struggled from the field the entire night, hitting only 18-of-63 (28%), but were superb at the charity stripe in the final twenty minutes connecting on 95 percent of their attempts. Louisiana College also forced Ozarks (9-8, 5-7 ASC) into 24 turnovers. Lacey Phillips scored nine first half points and gave Ozarks a 13-9 lead early in the first half on a jumper. Serena Clokey buried a three-pointer with 1:13 left, but Ozarks would still trail 29-26 at intermission.
Louisiana College built a 48-36 advantage at the 10:49 mark of the second half, but Sabrina Goddard, who scored 11 second half points, completed a three-point play just minutes later to make it 48-42. The two teams traded baskets over the next five minutes and Goddard would score another basket with 5:20 left to put Ozarks within 58-52. But the Lady Wildcats went on a 8-0 run in the ensuing three minutes to build a 14-point lead.
Phillips ended the game with a team-high 16 points. She drilled a pair of three-pointers and had three steals. Goddard scored 15 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.
Ozarks will travel to Clinton, Mississippi, to face Mississippi College Saturday.
