Release Date: 02/08/2010
Clarksville, Ark.-The UT-Dallas women raced out to a 27-11 halftime lead and then cruised in the second half to claim a 63-41 win over the Lady Eagles in American Southwest Conference play Monday night in Richardson, Texas.
Ozarks (5-16, 3-13 ASC) struggled with UT-Dallas’ defensive pressure in the first half, scoring only six points through the first 12 minutes of play. After UT-Dallas (16-6, 12-5 ASC) scored with 8:24 left in the half, the Comets would score just two more field goals. Ozarks didn’t fair much better as they hit two field goals and a free throw, all coming from Sabrina Goddard.
The low-scoring defensive battle continued early in the second half. The Lady Eagles would trail 33-13 four minutes into the second half, but Lacey Phillips scored to cut the deficit to 18 points. Back-to-back three-pointers by Savannah Carter and Chelsea Glasscock made it 37-21 with 14:32 remaining. But the Comets answered each Ozarks’ basket and led by 20 points with just under six minutes to go.
Goddard finished with a double-double (13 points, 12 rebounds). Glasscock also recorded a double-double (10 points, 14 rebounds) to go along with three steals.
Ozarks will face UT-Tyler in Tyler, Texas February 13.
