Texas Lutheran Women Notch First Win
Release Date: 12/10/2010
Clarksville, Ark.-Texas Lutheran University put on a dominating rebounding performance to outlast the Lady Eagles 69-54 Friday night in American Southwest Conference action.
Texas Lutheran (1-6, 1-4 ASC) pulled down 53 boards, including 34 on the defensive end, and limited Ozarks (6-4, 2-4 ASC) to 37 total rebounds. The rebound advantage helped the Lady Bulldogs hold off any thought of an Ozarks’ rally and gave them their first win of the season. Both Tamisha Timpson and Rebecca Valdez posted double-doubles and combined for 22 rebounds for Texas Lutheran. Ozarks held the lead for the first 12 minutes of the game. Chelsea Glasscock hit a three-pointer at the 13:07 mark to put Ozarks ahead 17-11. Texas Lutheran took the lead with 8:12 left and then held on for a 34-28 halftime advantage.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the second half with a 15-2 run to take control of the game. Texas Lutheran grabbed nearly every rebound during that stretch and then maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way. Ozarks did make a run after trailing 52-34 with 12:01 remaining. Ashley Teague hit a pair of three-pointers to fuel the comeback, getting Ozarks within 52-42 with 10:12 left. But Texas Lutheran continued to dominate the boards to gain back its momentum. The Lady Bulldogs also took advantage at the free throw line, hitting 22-of-34 in the game. Ozarks drew just six chances at the charity stripe and made only 21-of-66 (31%) from the floor.
Teague poured in 19 points and hit 3-of-7 from long range. Sabrina Goddard had 10 points.
Ozarks will host Texas-Dallas December 18.
